ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a complete system of medicine which is used to treat a broad spectrum of health problems. It works with the natural energies inherent within all living things to promote the body's ability to heal itself. Acupuncture is based upon principles which have been used in the Orient for the last 4000 years, acupuncture was virtually unknown in the United States until the early 1970's when information between China and the U.S. was exchanged.

Acupuncture works with the forces behind our life processes. Disease manifests and is not cured when the life force (or Qi, pronounced chee) becomes weakened to such an extent that it can no longer heal. This shows as an imbalance in the body's energy currents (meridians), the pathways through which Qi passes. The ancient masters traced these pathways and located points along them at which life energy communicates with the surface of the body. Modern science has been able to measure the electrical charge of these points, thus corroborating the locations of these life energy channels. Traditional Oriental medicine has also developed methods of determining the flow in the meridian system, using an intricate system involving the palpation of the six pulses on each wrist.

Acupuncture is safe and, in the hands of a skilled practitioner, relatively painless. The needles are very fine and flexible, about the diameter of a thick hair. Acupuncture bears no resemblance to the feeling of getting an injection, as the main source of pain from injections is the hollow needle and the medication being forced into the tissue by pressure. Your health is our primary concern. We use only pre-sterilized, disposable needles.

Many conditions may be alleviated very rapidly; however, some conditions which have arisen over a course of years will be relieved only with slow, steady progress.
